This quote is from John Owen’s Communion with God:
Our communion with God lies in His giving Himself to us and our giving ourselves and all that He requires to Him. This communion with God flows from that union which is in Christ Jesus.
The sovereign Creator of the universe has pursued the rebels of His kingdom, not in hatred that we deserve, but in love. He pursued us in death, the death of His only begotten Son. Now, through Christ, we have been adopted as sons and enjoy fellowship with Him. He only requires that we do one thing: give Him our all. We are called to give God everything–our gifts, desires, ugly flaws, EVERYTHING. This is a daily struggle and can only be done through the power of the gospel. This is what it takes to grow in communion with God.
